Training OPITO Rigger Competence Assessment

Requirements
Note! As of March 1, 2022, OPITO introduced significant changes to the prerequisites required for training. Delegates must have:

Option 1
(a) Valid OPITO-approved Rigger Initial Certificate issued in last 32 months

and

(b) A fully completed and valid OPITO Rigger Workplace Experience Logbook, along with documents for each of the 50 tasks*, such as a copy of the lifting plan, permit to work (PTW), or toolbox talk (TBT) based on the Rigger Initial Training Standard and OPITO Rigger Workplace Experience Logbook. The logbook must be signed by the manager of the employing department or the manager of the employing company before the assessment to prove its authenticity and validity.

- Documents are not required for delegates who completed the OPITO Rigger Initial Training between February 29, 2020 and February 28, 2022.

or

(c) If a delegate completed the OPITO Rigger Initial Training between November 1st, 2021, and November 30th, 2023: a filled and valid OPITO Rigger Workplace Experience Logbook and documents confirming for all 10 tasks, such as lifting plan, permit to work (PTW) or Toolbox talk (TBT) according to requirements of Rigger Initial Training Standard and OPITO Rigger Workplace Experience Logbook.

The Logbook must be signed by the manager of the department or the manager of the hiring company and confirmed by the training center before the assessment to prove its authenticity and validity.

Option 2
(d) An OPITO-approved Rigger Competence Assessment or Rigger Competence Reassessment awarded within the last 30 months.

Option 3
(e) An equivalent qualification or certification from a nationally recognized awarding body, awarded within the last 30 months.

Note: after two years, the certificate loses its validity (see Note 1 below).

Note 1: Learners whose OPITO Rigger Competence Assessment or OPITO Rigger Competence Reassessment expired more than 6 months ago will need to retake OPITO Rigger Initial Training before assessing Rigger's competence. In such cases, completing the OPITO Rigger Workplace Experience Logbook will not be required.

Validity Extension
The certificate is valid for 2 years. Before the expiring date it is necessary to complete the OPITO Rigger Competence Assessment or OPITO Rigger Competence Reassessment to keep the credentials valid.

As of March 1, 2022, OPITO updated the training nomenclature:
Stage 1 - Initial Training
Stage 3 - Assessment
Stage 4 - Reassessment

Who is the Course Aimed At?

This course is designed for individuals aiming to become competent riggers with an OPITO certificate.

Course Goal

The goal of the OPITO Rigger Competence Assessment is to establish that the candidate has gained the required knowledge, understanding, and practical skills to work safely and effectively in the role of a rigger.

Course Completion Confirmation

This certificate is approved by the international organization OPITO.
