- do not drink coffee and/or energy drinks
- do not smoke cigarettes about 2 hours before the visit and do not eat any food
- prepare yourself for the Chester Step test by bringing comfortable, athletic clothing that allows you to exercise
2 years - unless the doctor decides otherwise based on the results of the tests
Chester Step - repeated every year
If you successfully pass the tests and examinations, you will receive an OEUK, Chester Step and ERT certificate confirming your ability to participate in the duties of an emergency response team.
ATTENTION!!! NEW OEUK GUIDELINES FROM NOVEMBER 1, 2025.
Blood pressure is measured during every OEUK medical examination! The result of this measurement may determine the validity period of the certificate – please read the guidelines:
<140/90 - Certificate with normal validity period
140/90 or >, but <180/120 - Certificate with reduced validity period
180/120 or > No certificate, same day/urgent clinical evaluation
NEW GUIDELINES FOR OBESITY WEIGHT CATEGORY:
The offshore industry has agreed on a new policy whereby employees should not work abroad in the UK sector if their weight in clothes exceeds 124 kg.
This policy will be introduced in three stages from November 1, 2025, in accordance with the following rules:
STAGE 1 - Introduction and awareness phase: from November 1, 2025, to January 31, 2026:
During this phase, the industry will provide information about the new policy. No changes to certification are required. Doctors will inform workers weighing over 110 kg and/or with a BMI >30 about the new weight limit required for offshore workers.
STAGE 2 - Transition phase: from February 1, 2026, to October 31, 2026:
Any employee weighing more than 110 kg and/or with a BMI >30 will be informed of the 124 kg limit. For employees weighing 115 kg or more and/or with a BMI of 35-39.9, the validity period of the certificate will be shortened in accordance with the new guidelines. Please note that the validity of the certificate for employees weighing more than 124 kg and/or with a BMI >40 should not exceed October 31, 2026.
STAGE 3 - Implementation phase: from November 1, 2026:
If an employee's weight, including clothing, exceeds 124 kg and/or their BMI is >40, If the employee's weight including clothing exceeds 124 kg and/or BMI >40, THE CERTIFICATE WILL NOT BE ISSUED!!!
All employees weighing over 110 kg and/or with a BMI >30-34.9 will be informed of the weight limit,
and for those weighing between 115 and 124 kg and/or with a BMI >35-39.9, the validity period of the certificate will be shortened in accordance with the new guidelines.
ERT Medical is aimed at those working in offshore emergency response teams and includes a full OEUK and Chester Step examination.
The candidate must meet the special requirements set out for those in Emergency Response Team roles.
