Basic info
Sanitary examinations consist in the analysis of three stool samples taken with a swab on a transport medium for three consecutive days - signed with the patient's name, date of birth and dates of collection (I, II, III).
These can be performed at our facility at a cost of PLN 80.00 per sample.
Those working with food additionally need to provide a chest X-ray.
- Lung X-ray at a cost of PLN 80.00. (a)Teleradiodiagnosta, 2 Starzyńskiego Street, 70-506 Szczecin (second floor room 310)
- Three suitable containers should be provided. Most often these are so-called transport medium swabs, i.e. special tubes with a gel and a thin stick ending in a cotton wool.
- The urinary bladder should be completely emptied before the sample is taken.
- The faeces should be passed into a clean, dry container prepared in advance.
- The stool sample, using the applicator, should be placed in the required container. A trace amount of faeces is sufficient, there is no need to collect more faeces on the swab.
- Each container with a stool sample should be labelled: name, surname, date of birth, date and time of collection.
- Stool samples for Salmonella and Shigella testing should be collected on 3 consecutive days (one stool sample each day).
- All 3 samples should be submitted to the point of collection as soon as possible on the day of collection of the last third sample.

A negative result means no infection.
Once the results are ready, you should go to your occupational physician, who will issue a statement to this effect.
Sanitary examinations are carried out as part of occupational medicine. They consist of microscopic, chemical and bacteriological evaluation of samples taken from faecal matter. Their purpose is to detect salmonella and shigella bacteria. The sanitary examination is the basis for issuing a so-called sanitary booklet. This is the document required when taking up a job in catering or a profession involving contact with a large number of people.
Sanitary-epidemiological examinations are required for:
- teachers,
- employees in the food and catering industry,
- the medical industry,
- school and university students studying in these sectors.
In addition, according to the Act, the following must be examined:
- persons suspected of having an infection or infectious disease,
- carriers,
- healers
- persons who have been exposed to infection through contact with infected persons, sick persons or infectious material.
The law governing this requirement is the Act of 5 December 2008 on the prevention and control of infections and infectious diseases in humans and the Act of 25 August 2006 on food and nutrition safety. Pursuant to the provisions contained therein, the employer is obliged to refer employees for preventive examinations - initial, periodic and control.
